Sustainability & Energy Management

A UCF department that provides informative and educational outreach to the UCF community in order to generate voluntary behavior modification while facilitating the sustainable stewardship of all faculty, staff, and students. Through Educational and interactive programming within the UCF community, SEM provides real life experiences into a sustainable future. In addition, SEM strives to create a campus population which is informed and actively participating in the facilitation of sustainable growth.

UCF Recycles

UCF RecyclesUCF Recycles, a unit of Facilities Operations in the Facilities and Safety building #16A, is the collection arm of the recycling effort here on the UCF campus. Many Housekeepers and Recyclers on both the day and evening shifts work very hard to move recyclable materials out of the waste stream into the recycling stream.

I.D.E.A.S.

Ideas for UsI.D.E.A.S. is a nation-wide student organization founded at UCF that was started to inspire and promote environmental sustainability on campuses. They offer service learning opportunities through hands-on action based practices which focus on environmental stewardship and conservation, as well as interactive strategies used to raise awareness about environmental concerns. In addition, I.D.E.A.S. also advocates and performs scientific research and experimentation in advanced biofuels, energy efficiency and renewable sources of energy. Furthermore,
I.D.E.A.S. provides the initiatives that link interested students with issues effecting our local environment and surrounding communities.

I.D.E.A.S. Volunteer Opportunities include:

SpokesCouncil

SpokesCouncilSpokescouncil is a bike advocacy club based out of the University of Central Florida. Along with teaching bicycle repairs for free to anyone willing to learn, they work with university officials to make East Orlando more bike-friendly. They hold many different group rides that cater to everyone from beginners to racers and through our Facebook, offer easy access to the UCF biking community. Whether you’re looking to get a bike, find people to ride with, or find out more about cycling in Orlando, Spokescouncil is a great place to start.

Current project goals are starting a bike share program at UCF, getting bike repair stands installed on campus, and starting an ongoing repair workshop series. If you’d like to get involved or just want to come out and ride, check out their website or find them on Facebook.

SORBA Orlando

SORBA Orlando is the Orlando/ Central Florida chapter of SORBA (Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association).  They are a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting mountain biking in Central Florida.  Founded in 2013, SORBA Orlando has grown to include six distinct and fun trails in and around Orlando and its suburbs, with more trail miles on the way!  SORBA Orlando trails offer everything from family-friendly places to ride, endurance bike races and time trials, skills-building sections, and opportunities to give back to the community.
